How to install 2018-2023 Chevrolet Equinox Reverse Back up Lights
Ready to upgrade your old halogen bulbs? Learn how to replace and complete the installation for LED headlight bulbs. Easy installation and tips!
The halogen exterior bulbs may be too dim in your 2018-2023 Chevrolet Equinox, which can make vision difficult, especially in bad weather or severe driving conditions. Upgrading the old halogen bulbs on your 2018-2023 Chevrolet Equinox with new aftermarket LED bulbs can add a great new look to your vehicle and improve visibility at night for a safer driving experience.
If you choose to upgrade your old halogen bulbs to new LED bulbs, it is best to confirm you have the correct replacement LED bulb by referring to the original bulb or 2018-2023 Chevrolet Equinox direct owner’s manual.

Tools Needed for Installation:
- T-15 Torx driver
- Tab puller tool
The following information is step-by-step instructions on how to install your new T15 912 W16W 921 CANBUS LED Bulbs Error Free Backup Reverse Lights 12V LED bulbs replacements.
Step #1
Begin by opening the tailgate, there are two clips and a torque screw you’ll need to remove.

Use your tab puller tool to remove the clip and the T15 Torx to remove the screw.
Step #3
There are still clips holding the cover in so pry the edge enough to reach the clips.
Step #4
After we unclip these two, the rest was easy to remove by just pulling down on the cover.

We highlight here the several clips holding it in and where they attached to the tailgate.

Turn the light socket counterclockwise to remove it.
Step #7
Pull out the incandescent bulb.
Step #8
Plug in the LED into the socket and test it.
Step #9
Repeat the same steps for the other side and we test it before putting it all back together.
Step #10
When one bulb was installed there were no issues, but we discovered after testing when both LED bulbs were installed that there’s a problem.

When switching out of reverse, the LED bulbs were still dimly lit, and the backup camera didn’t return to the main screen.

We can remedy this by installing a 5W 32 Ohm resistor rated for 15W into either side.

Begin by unplugging the LED bulb, cut back some of the black tape and separate the wires.

Open the t-tab and slide the open side onto the socket wire, you can still slide the t-tab on the wire.

Insert the wire from the resistor into the open hole on the t-tab.

Use pliers to squeeze the metal tab on the t-tab and close the cap

Now repeat those steps with the other wire and the other t-tab.

Now plug the bulb back into the socket and now we can test both sides. Just a note, you only need to install the resistor into one side, both bulbs work and the resistor should get hot if it’s installed correctly, if not, recheck the connection.

And the issue we had before when shifting out of reverse is gone and we tested this with other LED models and this solution was successful so we’ll put it all back together.

Install both bulbs into the socket until secure.

Install the cover, line up the tabs and push it up into place.

Replace the two plastic clips and tighten the torque screw. Push in the plastic clips to lock them.
These new LED reverse lights are super bright when we measure the output with our light meter, the LED bulbs are more than seven times brighter than the incandescent bulbs of your 2018-2023 Chevrolet Equinox.
